Birthday Cakes Galore

This weekend I had more than a handful of cakes, and they were ALL birthday cakes. Usually I have a few birthday ones and maybe a bridal or baby shower thrown in. Nope, this weekend was not the case. They were all different, and so much fun to do. I tried some figure modelling with the kids birthday cakes, and the result was awesome.

The details are what make these cakes so special. The more attention that goes into any one part of the cake makes it that much better. And it shows.

I finished this one today, I was really pleased. New photos were also added to the gallery, so be sure to check them out!

For all the brides out there, thanks for giving me the advanced notice on your cakes, it really helps. I have some spots left, so if there is anyone else who wants to book for summer 2010, please let me know as soon as you can.

Have a great week everyone!

Peas In a Pod

Oh how I love matching. Anyone who was at our wedding will surely know that. I had the challenge of replicating (with a few adjustments) a baby shower invitation onto a cake. It was fun, yet challenging at the same time. Being a designer first, my initial reaction was that my ideas kind of had to go on the back burner, however I learned that this was not the case. After trial and error on recreating the baby, the solution was simple. It didn’t have to match exactly, it had to “go”. Here was the final product, it was vanilla cake with lemon filling and vanilla buttercream. According to my husband, it was mmmmmmmmm.

The pea pod was dusted with some green pearl dust to give it the shimmer, the invitation had that as well.

On a side note, I’ve had quite a few people asking how far in advance they need to order a cake. Any notice is good notice, even if it’s a few months. Weekends tend to fill up faster than weekdays.

Have a great week everyone!

What a week!

This weekend was wonderful.  To start the week, I was featured in the online news here in Sault Ste. Marie. You can see the article here. Thank You to each and every one of you who either congratulated me, or just called to say that they saw the article. It was appreciated. So needless to say this week got busy pretty fast. It was great. The best thing about all of this is the creative process behind the cakes. Not just my own, but of my clients. The cakes are starting to be more than just your normal round or square cakes, which is so exciting! This weekend was no exception. I was able to take on the challenge of a cake in the shape of a bunny coming out of a magicians hat, and a very well known shopping bag. Take a look.

The cakes are beginning to get more challenging, and I am going to welcome them with open arms!

Have a great week everyone, keep those calls coming!

Introducing Cakelets!!

Well it finally happened, I needed to make a purse cake. As far as I’m concerned, a woman can never have too many purses, my husband disagrees. So here I find myself with a new obsession. These cakes serve 1-2 people, and can be made in the same fashion to serve 3-4. They are adorable and would be great for bridal showers or as party favors. I hope you all enjoy!

Quiet Weekend

Well, not much to say here. I had a quiet weekend, so I held a little competition for a free cake. An old friend of mine from back in the gymnastics days won. Congrats Jennifer! I really hope the cake made your grandmother smile!  Here are a few shots of it. I thought it turned out pretty cute.

Another cake I did this weekend was for Anthony’s Aunt, it was her birthday. Just a plain and simple present cake. In my eyes however, simplicity is key. Happy Birthday Auntie Joy!

Up and Running!

Here it is, my first post! It’s so exciting to have this site where people can not only order and inquire about my cakes, but see some of the process. Check back often to see not only new cakes ( in the gallery) but new experiences, and friends made along the way.

Shout outs to my wonderful husband Anthony for not hesitating but encouraging me to do this, all 6 of my parents, my sister Danielle (and Accountant) and all my friends for eating the cake!

Curt O’Neil gets a special shout out, cause he’s helped me out with a lot, and he is one busy man. Check out www.curtoneil.com to see why!!!!

Keep up with the support and I promise to make cakes that not only look super cool but taste awesome too!! Thanks everyone.

ps. here are some super cool shots that Curt took of my latest cake.
